First Baptist Church, Salisbury, NC

The members of the First Baptist Church of Salisbury share a rich heritage of witness and service in the name of Jesus Christ to the Salisbury community and beyond. We are committed, individually and as a congregation, to spreading the message of the gospel and to leading others to Christ through outreach, witnessing and example.

Formed originally by a tiny fellowship of Salisbury believers in 1849, the little congregation that originally called itself the First Baptist Church of Salisbury has grown over the years to approximately 1,600 members and become a strong presence among the churches in the downtown Salisbury area. Our outreach services to the local community include a weekday preschool called the "W.E.E. Center" and a weekly medical services community mission, in cooperation with other area churches, called the "Good Shepherd's Clinic." We also have Hispanic Ministry services in the Chapel each Sunday morning.

Our church also offers other ongoing ministries, activities and bible study opportunities, including:

  • Upward! Basketball and Cheerleading activities for kids Kindergarten through 6th grade
  • GriefShare - Grief recovery support groups
  • DivorceCare - Find help and healing for the hurt of separation and divorce
  • DivorceCare for Kids (DC4K) - provides a safe, fun place where your children will learn to understand their feelings, develop coping skills and become familiar with biblical concepts that will bring them comfort
  • North Carolina Baptist Men - Fellowship seeking to server the community
  • Youth Activities - Ski trips and other fun group activities for middle and high schoolers
  • Young Life - We support this program bringing the news of Jesus Christ to teenagers
  • Gold and Silver - Senior fellowship for fun and Christian service
  • Local, regional and international Missions Opportunities for all ages

First Baptist offers a wide variety of opportunities to serve the Lord through music. We have vocal and handbell choirs for all ages, a summer music camp for children, youth and adult praise and worship musical groups and we're the home of the annual "Living Christmas Tree" service, a holiday tradition in Salisbury.

Over the years the church has moved to newer and larger facilities twice. The main part of our current church building, including the sanctuary and the steeple, was constructed in 1952 with later additions completed in the 1960's. The main building includes a large fellowship hall under the sanctuary where Wednesday "Family Night" meals are served, a church parlor, a library, a chapel, church offices and numerous rooms for Sunday School classes.  A small prayer room is housed at the base of the steeple, which is built to one side of the sanctuary.

The most recent addition to our campus has been the acquisition of the former Salisbury YMCA building across the street from the front entrance to the church sanctuary. Renamed the "First Ministry Center" or "FMC," this beautiful facility allows us to accommodate larger groups and to offer new programs and events such as our "Upward Basketball" program for boys and girls. We're excited about the new opportunities for ministry afforded to us by the addition of this new building, and we invite you to visit the FMC on Wednesday or Sunday nights when activities are going on.

Please come visit us! We trust that you will find that First Baptist Church of Salisbury is the church home that you are looking for.... a loving and supportive body of believers where you can find real meaning and purpose for your life, and a wholesome environment for your children. Call us if we can answer any questions about our church!
